About the Event

Discover how the blues—America’s first homegrown music—became a global language that connects cultures, generations, and genres around the world. Join the Alabama Blues Project on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 5 p.m. at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center for an evening celebrating our country's musical heritage. ABP's Executive Director, Ashley R. Wheat, will deliver a keynote address highlighting "How Music Brings People Together". She will be accompanied with live music by the ABP instructors. This event is supported by the Society for American Music as part of their "Sounding the Nation at 250" project. The event is also in collaboration with the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa's "First Friday", and guests will be free to enjoy art exhibits in the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center then visit other surrounding downtown galleries. Admission is free to the general public.
